To thoroughly study and implement the spirit of the Third Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee and its "Decision of the CPC Central Committee on Further Comprehensively Deepening Reform and Advancing Chinese Modernization," and to actively participate in and promote the Healthy China initiative, the 3rd Cross-Strait Private Healthcare Development Summit was grandly held in Zengcheng, Guangzhou, from December 6 to 8, 2024. The summit was hosted by the Cross-Strait Medical and Health Exchange Association, co-organized by the Taiwan Hospital Association, and undertaken by Foresea Life Guangzhou General Hospital, with support from the Guangdong Zhong Nanshan Medical Foundation and Guangzhou Creative Biosciences.

With the theme "Quality-Driven, Scientifically Supported: Shaping a New Blueprint for High-Quality Private Healthcare Development," the summit gathered over 500 prominent leaders, including officials from the National Health Commission, the Cross-Strait Medical and Health Exchange Association, the Guangdong Provincial Health Commission, the Zengcheng District Government, and the Guangzhou Health Commission, along with executives and experts from renowned private healthcare institutions across the mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau. Together, they explored the evolving landscape and challenges of private healthcare within the framework of Chinese modernization, Formulating strategies and roadmaps for future progress.

The summit’s live online broadcast attracted over 300,000 viewers, sparking widespread discussion within the industry and setting a new benchmark for influence and public attention.

President Wang Jianping extended a warm welcome and heartfelt gratitude to all distinguished guests. He reflected on the remarkable achievements of the previous two summits, which optimized healthcare resource allocation and fostered experience-sharing and synergy among private healthcare institutions across the Taiwan Strait.

On behalf of the Zengcheng District Committee and Government, Deputy Mayor Li Yongqiang warmly welcomed all attendees and expressed sincere appreciation. In his address, Secretary Gao Feng emphasized that Foresea Life Guangzhou General Hospital plays a crucial role in the development of the Two Mountains Innovation Zone, focusing on improving international healthcare services. He highlighted the hospital’s role in innovating private healthcare mechanisms and contributing to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area’s vision of becoming an eco-friendly, world-class forest wellness and medical tourism destination. The Guangzhou Health Commission, he pledged, will fully support the continuous innovation of private healthcare models, unlocking greater potential and fostering further growth.

Deputy Director Wang Hongbin noted that China is accelerating the implementation of advanced international medical technologies and equipment, injecting new vitality into the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. He emphasized that the Cross-Strait Private Healthcare Development Summit, now in its third consecutive year, has become a premier exchange platform for leading medical experts worldwide, deepening healthcare cooperation across Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan. The summit has also reinforced the region’s position as a pioneering hub for diversified, digitalized, and intelligent healthcare innovation.

Chairman Lee Tsu-Te stressed that private healthcare is a vital component of the medical system, playing a key role in enhancing service delivery and meeting the diverse healthcare needs of the public. He highlighted the importance of long-term planning, effective patient communication, and continuous technological and talent development for private healthcare institutions.

Dr. Ko Wing-man, Former Secretary for Food and Health, Hong Kong SAR Government

Dr. Ko Wing-man provided insights into Hong Kong’s dual-track medical system, emphasizing the complementary roles of public and private healthcare sectors. He underscored the importance of private healthcare in offering diverse, personalized, and convenient medical services, helping to fulfill the evolving healthcare demands of modern society.

In her speech, Dr. Wu Pei Juan emphasized that private healthcare must always prioritize people's health and remain patient-centered. She also highlighted the recent pilot program allowing foreign-funded hospitals in nine designated areas, noting that this presents both challenges and opportunities for private healthcare. She urged the industry to leverage local social resources to drive medical advancements.

President Wang Liji stated that this year’s summit, themed "Quality-Driven, Scientifically Supported: Shaping a New Blueprint for High-Quality Private Healthcare Development," focuses on studying the spirit of the Third Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee and aligning with the National Health Commission's healthcare reform initiatives. He emphasized that the summit seeks to explore the new trends, concepts, and challenges facing private healthcare in China's modernization process, deepening its role in the Healthy China initiative and fostering the regulated and high-quality development of private healthcare.

Deputy Director Xing Ruoqi acknowledged the critical role of private healthcare in safeguarding public health and driving socio-economic progress. She stressed the need for private medical institutions to align with high-quality development trends and cater to diverse healthcare demands. She further pointed out that private healthcare should focus on long-term growth, strategic accumulation, and differentiated development from public hospitals, working collaboratively to enhance the overall healthcare system.

Following the speeches, the "Cross-Strait Private Healthcare Alliance" was officially launched. The alliance comprises Foresea Life Guangzhou General Hospital, Xiamen Chang Gung Hospital, Macau Kiang Wu Hospital, Nanjing BenQ Hospital, Xiamen Hong’ai Hospital, Dongguan Taixin Hospital, United Family Healthcare, Gleneagles Hong Kong Hospital, C-MER Medical Holdings Limited, and Guangzhou Creative Biosciences. The alliance aims to promote the standardized development of private healthcare across the Taiwan Strait and Hong Kong-Macao regions, fostering collaboration in academic exchange, technological empowerment, medical training, and integrated healthcare networks.
